My name is Sarah Mitchell and I am the Kindergarten Teacher at Charters Towers Kids Early Learning Centre. I have been working in early childhood education and care for 6 years and cannot express in words how much I love my job. I stumbled into this profession by accident when I began studying the Certificate III in 2010 so I could find a job. Little did I know that needing a job would turn into a career that I continue daily to be inspired by. I enjoyed working with children so much that I went on to complete my Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, and the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood). I am currently studying the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) and plan on doing a Master’s degree in education from there.
Nelson Mandela once stated, “Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth who care for and protect our people. (3 June 1995).
To ensure this happens, I believe strongly that it is our responsibility as teachers and educators to do everything in our power to help children build the foundations that will support them to become the best possible versions of themselves. Each and every child is an individual who is capable of thinking for themselves with creative minds and the knowledge to develop their own ideas. All children learn and grown at their own pace, at different times and can all be successful in reaching their goals as long as they have someone who believes in them and is willing to go with them on their journey, no matter how long it takes. Not only am I a willing participant to this learning, but it is my absolute pleasure to be able to travel this road with them.
